Although not all of your comments have necesarily been "school-appropriate," they have been enjoyable to read. I hope that you continue to work on your project over break. Hopefully the trip to the Culinary Institute is useful (maybe it will be a good opportunity to get an interview, too).
Use your time off to finish your background research.
